On February 3rd 2021, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) announced the outcome of the discussion held during its 45th Plenary Session. During the meeting, the EDPB adopted a wide range of documents and a discussion about WhatsApp’s privacy policy was held too.
Specifically, the EDPB announced, through the adoption of a Recommendation, the application of EU data protection laws, including the Law Enforcement Directive, dealing with the processing of personal data. The EDPB adopted an Opinion on the Draft Administrative Arrangement (AA) about the transfers of personal data between the Haut Conseil du Commissariat aux Comptes (H3C) and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). Moreover, the EDPB adopted a Statement on the draft provisions on a protocol to the Cybercrime Convention, through which it denounced the fact that the current provisions are likely to affect the protection of personal data, saying that there should be more constintency with EU provisions with regard to personal data. The EDPB provided its response to the European Commission quetionnaire on processing personal data for scientific research.
Finally, there was a discussion about the recent WhatsApp’s privacy policy update. The EDPB assured its consistent application of data protection laws across the EU.
