MEPs will debate the NSA’s tapping of the SWIFT network of international bank-transfer-data and the findings of the last meeting of EU and US experts on data protection with Commissioner Malmström on Tuesday. This will be the focus of the third hearing of the Civil Liberties Committee inquiry into US and EU countries’ surveillance schemes, to take place from 9.00 to 11.30 and from 15.00 to 18.30 on 24 September.
At the meeting, MEPs will also hear the views of Jens-Henrik Jeppesen and Greg Nojeim, from the American Center for Democracy and Technology, and of Caspar Bowden, an independent researcher, who will present a study on US surveillance programmes and their impact on EU citizens’ privacy.
