The 5th Monroe Price International Moot Court Competition on Freedom of Expression and Media Law is being held at Oxford University from 21 – 24 March 2012. It is being organized by Oxford’s Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy and, in particular, by Nicole Stremlau, editor of Medialaws. This is a call for judges during the oral rounds of the competition on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd March. Oreste Pollicino, director of Medialaws, will be one of the judges. We are also looking for other volunteers to help throughout the programme. Last year, Giovanni Maria Riccio, editor of Medialaws, was among the judges of the competition.
It will be an exciting opportunity to meet leading academicians in this field, lawyers from media groups such as the BBC, organizations like Article 19, the International Media Lawyers Association, and a host of law firms.
Argued before an imaginary Universal Court of Human Rights based on the UDHR, the Monroe Price International Moot Court Competition focuses on free speech, and media rights in developing countries. We are proud of the diversity we have been able to achieve in the countries being represented this year. The 35 teams at this year’s competition include teams from China, Pakistan, UAE, India, Nigeria, Kenya, Georgia etc.
If you are interested in participating in the competition as a judge, please write to Louise Scott at louise.scott@csls.ox.ac.uk by Friday February 24th. Please include a CV and a brief description of any relevant experience.
