The Civil Liberties Committee of the European Parliament chose the Polish candidate Wojciech Wiewiórowski as the top candidate for the position of European Data Protection Supervisor. The European Parliament and the Council will formally appoint him for the 5-year mandate upon confirmation of the EP President and the heads of the political groups. As Assistant Supervisor at the EDPS, Wiewiórowski has been replacing the former European Data Protection Supervisor Giovanni Buttarelli as of 21 August 2019.
